This is meant to be a somewhat interesting introduction to/history of this style of licensing. Blurb: Ever wondered how HTTPS or SSH work? Puzzled over the difference between public key cryptography and block ciphers? Worried about MD5 hash collisions invalidating your digital signatures? We'll take you on a tour of basic cryptographic concepts, then use those to understand how things we use routinely work, and finish with some advice on using cryptography wisely. This is an introductory level talk for people who know a tiny bit about computers and network protocols, but know little or nothing about cryptography, and want to become educated consumers. Hardly any math, and nothing beyond high school algebra.
